Author Steven McLaughlin is visiting Blackburn Central Library on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30pm. His autobiography ‘Squaddie' has been highly acclaimed as an accurate account of infantry soldiering in the twenty-first century.
Steven McLaughlin decided to serve in the army after the death of his brother, in the aftermath of 9/11. During his 3 years in the army, he survived post-war chaos in Iraq, and tensions in Northern Ireland. He is now an expert military commentator for BBC Radio Lancashire, and has featured on Radio Five Live, Sky News and the BBC World Service.
The autobiography covers those 3 years, as well as basic training. It is a great insight into army life, and is one of those unusual books that chronicles an ordinary soldier's time in the army.
