How do writers function in a state where freedom of expression is limited by law? This is the situation for Murat Belge and numerous other authors, academics and journalists in Turkey who face prosecution for the content of their writing and interviews. Murat Belge’s talk will cover his own experiences of prosecution - as well as those of others, such as Orhan Pamuk and writers less well-known outside Turkey, examples of the issues and literature which breach Turkey’s laws on freedom of expression, and a history of this long-standing problem in Turkey with Freedom of Expressiona personal prognosis for the future.
