Award winning author, Alan Gibbons is visiting Blackburn central library on March 13, at 7pm. Alan Gibbons has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Book Award twice. (This is the award for children/young adult books which is voted for by librarians.) He is best known for his book ‘Shadow of the Minotaur’ which won the Blue Peter ‘The book I couldn’t put down’ award in 2000. It tells the story of Phoenix, a teenager whose father creates virtual reality games which become too real and Greek myths come to life. Alan Gibbons has also written books for teenagers on such diverse subjects as bullying, domestic violence and the effects of terrorism. Alan Gibbons is a full time writer and educational consultant. He regularly contributes to the TES, Junior Education, Carousel and Books for Keeps. Alan Gibbons writes mainly for boys, as he is very keen that boys should be encouraged to read.
