How do the visual arts act as a starting point and example for poems? Poets including Elizabeth Bishop, Derek Mahon, Sylvia Plath, John Ashbery, Paul Muldoon, Jorie Graham and Don Paterson have worked this way. You’ll also use different artists and different kinds of art - portraits, video art, performance, landscape, surrealism and abstraction - as starting points for your own poems during the course.
