Carcanet Press, one of the UK’s outstanding independent literary publishers, seeks a literate, enthusiastic, highly motivated and well organized Sales Manager to join its small, dedicated team.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of Carcanet and the journal PN Review in its busy Manchester city-centre office. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for sales of books, e-books, CDs and magazines, working closely with the Managing Editor and the Marketing Manager.
The successful applicant’s key qualities will be efficiency, creativity, spoken and written communication skills, IT skills, and an enthusiasm for and knowledge of literature (poetry in particular). The Sales Manager will be educated to degree level or equivalent. S/he will be able to work on her/his own initiative and also as part of a small team.
At a time of flux in the traditional book trade, with the growth of Amazon and the development of e-books and digital publishing, new challenges are faced every week and new sources of income for book and periodical publishing are developing. The Sales Manager, building on the work of outstanding predecessors, is tasked with maintaining the traditional channels of distribution and developing new ones, keeping abreast of developments and seeking new outlets and opportunities for Carcanet’s products.
