The Portico Library & Gallery opened in 1806 and continues to be an active centre of culture for the people of Manchester and beyond. The Library consists of a remarkable 19th Century collection of approx 25,000 books, housed in its original splendid Grade II listed building. Their doors open during the annual Heritage Open Days and this year the Library will also be open to all on Sat 8 and Sun 9 September 10am-4pm. During this time the Library will also launch new Saturday openings (10am-2pm from Sat 15 September).
