BANIPAL MAGAZINE PRESENTS: The Banipal Live Tour 2006
When : 17th August 2006 - 1:00pm
Where : Central Library
Price : Free
Four pre-eminent young Arab writers will tour the UK this August for a series of performance-readings and live discussions at bookshops, theatres and libraries. The four writers – poets Joumana Haddad from Lebanon and Abed Ismael from Syria, and fiction writers Mansoura Ez-Eldin from Egypt and Ala Hlehel from Palestine – have been invited as part of Banipal Live 2006, a partnership of Banipal Magazine with the British Council.
In addition, Banipal Live 2006 and The Reading Agency will present a pioneering project in selected libraries along the route, promoting contemporary Arab authors in English translation. A selected list of titles, including best-selling reads, classics, women authors and poetry collections, will be the basis for book loans, themed events and reading groups, and will include a specially published volume (see notes) by the visiting quartet of writers. It will enable borrowers and reading groups to discover for themselves the wealth of contemporary literature from the Arab world.
The tour begins in London and ends in Edinburgh. In between, the tour will visit Manchester's Central Library.
