At our foundation in 1891, the first Trustees made it their purpose to provide a Centre for British Romanticism 'for lovers of English poetry from all over the world'. Each year, writers come from all parts of the UK and from overseas, including Africa, the US, the Republic of Ireland and Hungary. This major series of readings takes place every Tuesday evening at the Waterside hotel, on the shores of Grasmere Lake (off the main A591 Kendal-Keswick road), just opposite Dove Cottage. The Summer Poetry Readings are accompanied by an optional supper, usually attended by the writer, at 8.40pm (please contact us for prices) at the Dove Cottage Restaurant (please book through the Wordsworth Trust).
