In this challenge to the audience, Danielle Jawando, Pete Kalu and Tariq Mehmood will discuss how to invent characters and plots that are truly diverse. Several potential pitfalls will be outlined and the debate extended to the hot topics of authenticity, cultural appropriation, representation and artistic freedom. By the end of the session, participants may have a better idea of how to craft YA plots which have a deep consideration of diversity and inclusion at their core. This is part of the Lancaster Words programme of events. FREE but tickets must be booked beforehand.
