MERSEY MINIS are set to become the most collectable books of 2007, after an enthusiastic welcome for the first of the series. Five delectable little books, postcard sized and perfect for posting, they are being hailed as design classics as well as full of fabulous reading. Published by Capsica, MERSEY MINIS celebrate Liverpool’s 800th anniversary in considerable style, with an amazing array of writing by writers famous and unknown: poets, philosophers, psychologists, politicians, scientists, servants, sailors and satirists, royals, rogues, rockers and rollers. Volume 2: LIVING will be launched at the end of June, with a delicious cover illustration featuring Bold Street and words by everyone from Matthew Arnold to John Wesley. LANDING, the first volume of Mersey Minis, was published on 27 April to much excitement from the crowd at Capsica’s launch party at BBC Radio Merseyside’s building. Series editor Deborah Mulhearn was presented with flowers by explorer and best selling author Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who has written a piece in Volume 3, following the appearance of his 17th century ancestor, explorer and best selling author Celia Fiennes, in Volume 1. Sir Ranulph wrote his piece for Mersey Minis while waiting at the foot of the Eiger, two days before his epic ascent of the treacherous North Face in March 2007. Volume 3, to be published on 28th August (Liverpool’s 800th birthday) will be 100% new writing, commissioned from famous writers and gathered from a worldwide competition. A birthday present to the city, 20,000 copies will be given to the people of Merseyside – exclusively on that day – not available for sale, except as part of the boxed set (available from mid-November).
